Jackson, who had lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation, had been scheduled to launch a comeback tour from London next month. The world’s biggest-ever music stars had sold 75 crore albums.

Michael Jackson was an international icon and he was such an inspiration. I see him perhaps as the best performer that ever existed. One did not need to meet him to feel the loss. It is very sad to see that such a great and incredible superstar leave us so early. It’s such a great loss to the international music and there nobody who can fill this vacuum in coming years. Watching him or listening to him was invigorating for musician’s world over. Music lovers were waiting for his come back tours and they were all sold out concerts.
Singer/music director Raghav Sachar
From the very beginning, Michael Jackson has been my inspiration. As a matter of fact, during my concerts, I have been performing a lot of his numbers. I was even planning on going to London for his comeback concert in July as well and was really looking forward to it. This is an irreparable loss to the music industry and music lovers. There can never be another Michael Jackson. Icons are exclusive.
Jay Bhanushali
The news of Jackson’s death came to me as shock. He was such a good performer. It is a big loss to the music industry. I have also heard that he was all set to make her comeback but suddenly his death has created shocked for his fans. He was a real legend when it comes to the world of melodious songs.
Longinus Fernandes
It is a sad demise. This is a big loss to entertainment world. We have grown watching him. He is a great source of inspiration. His music is eternal and will remain with us. I personally will live up to his dancing style.
Vikrant Massey
I have no words to say. I have been ardent his fan. I personally feel that he should be respected at least now when he is not there. He’s is god’s man. He belongs in paradise and is immortal. I really loved him; beside music world I think humanity will also miss him. I just want people put all the tags at rest. He was never into this. His legacy will live till end. There was only one Michael and no can be. It’s sad to see people minting money on his death. He is in safe hands of god and I’m happy for it.

“All the songs mean a lot to me and I hope the album will be enjoyed by all,” says Rahman. The album has the maestro’s personal favourites like Khalbali (Rang De Basanti), Dil se re (Dil Se...) and Meherbaan (Ada) and also includes the never-before released track Jiya se jiya. Connections also has Rahman’s first English language release Pray for me, brother and his immensely popular and cult classic Bombay Theme. In the true sense, it reflects the maestro’s “journey through anthems” and is a must-have for every Rahman buff.
Released exclusively on Universal Music, Connections is also available in a Collector’s Edition Pack that features the Rockstar Version video of Jiya se jiya. For the first time ever, Rahman appears in a zingy new avatar grooving alongside ace percussionist Sivamani. Also a part of this pack is Jai ho (You are my destiny) the collaboration between A. R. Rahman and The Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger.
The maestro's personally-handpicked favourites in this Collector's Edition Pack that also includes the 5.1 Surround Sound Experience of the video Jiya se jiya, the brand new Rockstar Version video of this song and the Single CD of Jai ho by The Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger.
Jiya se jiya is a thundering track that features A. R. Rahman on vocals with percussionist Sivamani and the exotic Drum CafĂ© (Mustafa Kutoane and Mpho Masinga). This track binds you to one emotion – love for all fellow-humans. The video showcases exactly these sentiments in 5.1 Surround.
Pray for me, brother, sung and composed by Rahman in aid of the United Nations Eradication of Poverty by 2015 Programme is a touching video. There is also a moving Instrumental version that adds further dimension to this number.
Ek mohabbat - Vote for Taj is the song that A. R. Rahman has dedicates the Taj Mahal and a celebration of eternal love and beauty that it represents. This song was a part of the ‘Vote For Taj’ campaign when the new Seven Wonders of the World were being chosen by popular vote.
Among the other Rahman picks are the video of Jai ho with The Pussy Cat Dolls with Nicole and the Dolls in Indian get-ups prancing around a Vienna train station. Rahman appears at the enigmatic chorus proving a sight for his fans.
This is a very personal album with a special ‘note of thanks’ by Rahman in the inlay that provides additional value for money to this collector's item. Aslam, Nasim, Karthik, Naresh Iyer, Blaaze, DJ A-Myth and A.R.Rahman are the vocalists while there are DVD tracks as mentioned above.
The lyricists include Prasoon Joshi and Gulzar. The collection traces Rahman’s vocals as evolved across Hindi and English in his roller-coaster career that began in 1993 with Roja and in Hindi with the 1995 Rangeela.
A R Rahman - Connections in a Collector’s Edition Pack (DVD + CD) is priced for Rs 245. The CDs are available at Rs 125.
The album begins with an atmospheric introduction followed by the chant of the revered Mool Mantra, one of the holiest chants of the Sikhs. Ek Onkaar represents “One God”. The fundamental teaching of Sikhism is that only one essence or one reality that is paramount. It is the first phrase in the Guru Granth Sahib. Ek Onkaar is followed by the Simran of Wahe Guru, the ultimate exclamation of wonderment in the praise of the Lord. Monica has also sung five Pauris from Japji Sahib that speak about the universality of God and the strong belief in destiny as depicted by Sikhism.
The sound and mood of the album, says Monica, is attuned to listeners crossing all barriers of age, class and nationality. The music has been arranged by Anand Kurhekar of Inner Voice, who has provided a very world-ambient kind of sound design to the entire album. Inner Voice has been the production house behind many a spiritual album like Dances Of Shiva, Gayatri Mantra, Mandukaya Upanishad, Preaching Of Buddha and others.
Now, a ‘launch’ for music directors!
Music album and singer launches are common, but at a unique function, new music directors were ‘launched’ at a party in a Mumbai suburban restorbar recently.
Filmmakers Satish Kaushik and Mehul Kumar are introducing new music directors Sachin and Jigar in their respective films Tere Sang and Krantiveer 2. Singers Kunal and his wife Gayatri Ganjawala, Shraddha Pandit, Shweta Pandit and Neeraj Shridhar, Sammir Dattani, Ruslaan Mumtaz and Sheena were among those present.

The National Centre for the Performing Arts, Mumbai - India’s premier cultural institution - and the All-India Musicians’ Group (AIMG) thus came together today to conduct a landmark event in the history of Indian music. Some of the country’s most renowned and reputed musicians gathered to discuss and address the current state of affairs of classical Indian music.
The primary objective of the NCPA and AIMG in initiating this gathering of the country’s leading maestros on one platform was to review the current Indian music scenario and to be a voice in unison with great national musicians expressing their views.
To make the occasion even more memorable, the NCPA presented Honorary Life Membership to all the AIMG members and patrons, as a tribute to their contribution to promoting and preserving the heritage of Indian music, not only in India but also globally.
Honouring the musicians on behalf of the NCPA, K N Suntook, Chairman, said, “We are indeed proud to have the icons of Indian music with us as an integral part of the NCPA family. I am certain that this alliance will help us attain our common goal of providing a platform for talented Indian musicians and supporting this movement in myriad forms.”
Some of the significant topics discussed at the meeting included the teaching of music to students at school level as well as further highlighting the need for support from the Ministry of Finance and Cultural Department to provide active encouragement to the Indian classical music fraternity. Additionally, the meeting featured the NCPA’s on-going efforts in promoting and preserving Indian music and other art forms, as well as ways in which the NCPA and AIMG could work together to champion the cause of Indian music.
Arvind Parikh, Convener - AIMG commented, “The All-India Music Group (AIMG) is a representative body of Indian music, comprising the leading maestros of both the Hindustani and Carnatic music systems. AIMG believes that the direction which Indian classical music is being induced to take requires corrective measures and it is the mission of AIMG to strive through interactions with all concerned to ensure that the focus of Indian classical music stays true to its authentic and time-tested objectives.”
Said K.N.Suntook, “We have come together to discuss and address the challenges facing the preservation and promulgation of the incredibly diverse schools of music with which India is blessed. The challenges include convincing the government, large corporations and educational institutions of the importance of preserving this rich heritage and not relegating it to be of less priority than the undoubted human and infrastructural problems that face our country.
“Whenever we approach Government for any meaningful aid or assistance, we are told that on account of the impact on revenue, they regret their inability to help. This is in deep contrast with the assistance provided by Asian countries to nurture and develop not only their own forms of art but also great international art. Singapore is a fine example of the success it has made after it developed the iconic Esplanade.
“In India, support of the Performing Arts features very low in the corporate social responsibility of even some of our most enlightened and richest corporations. How can we change that? Even purely as a business and as a means of attracting tourism, the great potential of using music to attract not only audiences within India but also from foreign shores has not been properly thought through, and even the tip of the potential of our huge cultural iceberg lies dormant. Countries with great historical and cultural traditions, whether they are in the form of architecture or the performing arts, have drawn on their treasures by first ensuring that the local population itself is educated and encouraged, in schools and at home, to understand and inculcate great pride and pleasure in preserving their heritage. Italy is a fine example, as are even small countries like Austria where the famous Salzburg Festival and even dozens more all over Europe and now even Asia, draw huge audiences filling their airlines, their hotels and nurturing the tourist industry. Tickets for many of these Festivals are sold out years in advance. Imagine what we could do if we structure education, promotions and understanding of our art to attract even a fraction of our huge population.
Adds he, “I believe it would refine our taste, improve our value systems, and unify our people. This is the challenge facing us and this great group are eminently qualified in addressing them. I can assure our Indian music community that within the resources available with NCPA, we would not be found wanting.”
"Pain in the stomach has gone. Life is pleasant. Sometimes, its better to execute caution and desist from overboard exuberance on one's condition, for fear of it going all wrong again!," Bachchan wrote on his blog after his family returned from Singapore.
Jaya, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya were in Singapore to be at their family friend Amar Singh's side during his kidney transplant operation.
However, the actor stayed back as he has been on physiotherapy with sound and laser at home due to backache.
Big B said doctors have told him that the backache was due to the way he sits on the chair and the way he bends to address "MR MACBOOKPro" (laptop to write his blog and interact with readers) and hence he has been advised to sit on two extra pillows and a dog collar band around the neck.
The actor told his fans that municipal authorities from the ward where he lives visited him on Thursday to explain certain facts and measures being taken to solve the menacing problem of flooding during heavy rains.
"They had been disturbed to read my description on the blog of the situation and desired to come over and explain," he said.
"The suburbs where I live and particularly the Juhu Scheme is a low lying area. These were swamp regions without any life or existence. Jaya and I waded through tall grass on foot to get to 'Prateeksha' and approved the place because we felt it was the edge of then Bombay and a place of peace," Bachchan wrote on his blog.
"It is now the centre of this metro geographically, because of the development around and beyond it. The canals have colonies living on its banks due to shortage of space, not to mention the massive construction boom accelerating its pace every hour. When nature strikes, it would be humanly impossible for any administration to bring relief," he said.
"As I said earlier, I have seen and been in New York during a severe snow storm and the city stopped functioning for three days. New York has been one of the more important, modern and richest cities of its time, it underwent development, which was way ahead of other cities in States. Now with the passage of time and fresh and more advanced development technologies in place, which the other cities have had the benefit of, New York begins to look archaic. And there are moves now to modernise it to keep up with modern terms and conditions."
So debates and discussions and proposals are being put forward of how this needs to be resolved. "I believe all fast growing and developing metropolises in the entire world face a similar problem. Mumbai is no different," he said.
"In Mumbai, moves are afoot for improvement. The tenacity of the human has always been under test and somehow some solution has always come forward," he said.
Now, funds are in place - an initiation by the Prime Minister himself. The canals are being widened and people living along it being moved to alternate locations and being rehabilitated, Big B said.
"And several pumping stations being installed at phenomenal cost to physically pump any excess water that collects in the canals and the drains, into the sea, even when there is the danger of the high tide," he said.
The actor signed off with an "immediate warning and caution - 24th of July 2009. Reason. Its going to have the highest and strongest high tide of the decade !!."
